This brief presents findings from a reconnaissance mission conducted in the Mara Wetland, a trans-boundary ecosystem shared by Kenya and Tanzania, under the Nile Civil Society for Climate Resilience (NCSCR) Project. The mission assessed ecological conditions, engaged local communities and stakeholders, and explored opportunities for piloting citizen-generated data systems to support climate-resilient wetland management.
Drawing on field observations, community dialogues, and technical consultations across more than 20 sites, the report highlights key environmental and governance challenges affecting the wetland, including climate change impacts, habitat degradation, and pressures from human activities. It also identifies priority areas for community-led monitoring and provides recommendations for strengthening inclusive, data-driven, and cross-border approaches to wetland conservation and resilience building.
